Spring 2023 News, Updates, and Reminders

Dear GBAA members and past GBAC attendees,

I am excited to share some news with you and a few reminders as we move towards spring:

1) The 2023 GBAC is scheduled for October 18-21 at the beautiful Riverhouse Convention Center in Bend, Oregon.  Please start planning those papers and symposia.  We’ll be sending out more information shortly regarding conference registration, a call for papers, field trips, and accommodations.  This is going to be a great GBAC in a wonderful location. Thank you Dennis Jenkins and his crew at U of O for spearheading this effort.

2) We are now accepting nominations for the 2023 Founder’s Lifetime Achievement Awards.  Please send your nominations, consisting of a nomination letter that clearly spells out the nominee’s lifetime contributions to Great Basin Anthropology, along with any additional letters of support, to Chris Morgan at [email protected]. Please do so no later than August 15, 2023.

3) Don’t forget to pay your 2023-2024 GBAA biennial membership dues.  Members receive a discount on GBAC registration fees.  You can do so here: GBAA Membership using your credit card or PayPal account. We also accept tax deductible donations and sponsorships. Please help support your GBAA!

4) We need to have an election this fall to replace the current GBAA Board, who have really stepped up to the plate to get us through the pandemic years. Per the GBAA’s bylaws, elections are to occur at the biennial GBAC meetings.  Due to the postponement of the 2020 GBAC due to Covid, which resulted in a one-year offset between GBAC meetings and regular GBAA Board terms, we’re holding the elections this year to get the GBACs and the GBAA election cycle back in sync.

Board positions are: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and two members at large.

If you would like to nominate someone for these positions or self-nominate, please send your nomination(s) to Chris Morgan at [email protected] by August 15, 2023.  Please check with your nominee before doing so to make sure they are willing to serveThe GBAA and GBAC only work if people are willing to volunteer their time, so please consider serving the GBAA!

Best Regards,
Chris Morgan
GBAA President
